Vue - Introduction to Lighting - Page 1 -Page 2

  • Step 8
  • Lets Get rid of the lighting existing lighting by
  • (1) Changing the atmosphere to Black
  • (2 & 3) Deleting the sun and replacing it by a point light
  • This is Vue scene: light2 and can be downloaded here (67KB) if you don't want to set up your own scenes. Just unzip it to the location of your choice. If you do this you can go straight to step9

  • Step 9
  • Here is the scene with the new lighting..
  • Note the lighting flare
  • Step 10
  • We can adjust the flare like so:
  • Step 11
  • Lets delete our point light and bring in a spotlight.
  • Make the spotlight point to the sphere. For a mini tute on the principal see here.
  • You may have to move it to the right a little bit so it can "light up" the sphere.
  • Step 12
  • Notice (Top View - above) the light doesn't have enough poser to reach the sphere - we will increase the power to 500
  • Step 13
  • We can also control the spread of our spotlight.
  • In this case we have increased it to 47.5
  • Step 14
  • We can also vary the amount the light decreases towards the edges, its caleld "Falloff"
  • Some notes:
  • Quadratic lights reduce power over distance a lot quicker than normal lights.
  • Point lights are like a light bulb, they emot light in all directions.
  • Directional lights only emit light in one direction, like the sun.
  • We havn't look at Voulmetric lights, that will be the subject of another tutorial.
  • Atmospheric conditions play a major part in our lighting set up. That also will be another tute.
Exercise: Create a pic showing how light intensity falls off over distance away from the light source.
